February dates for Aquarius and Pisces
If your birthday falls early in the month, Aquarius is your Sun sign. Your Sun sign refers to the zodiac section through which the Sun traveled on your birthday. Aquarius season lasts through mid February. After that, the Sun enters Pisces for the rest of the month. In most years the change happens on February 18, but in some years it lands on February 19.
Each sign has a traditional symbol in astrology, which you'll see when you look up your sign. The water bearer is Aquarius. To astrologers, this sign comes across as independent, observant and centered on community. Pisces shows 2 fish swimming in opposite directions. Traditional astrology describes Pisces as gentle and imaginative, quick to notice how the people near you feel.

What makes the sign switch on February 18 or 19?
There are 365 days in our calendar. Even so, circling the Sun takes the Earth about 365 days and 6 hours. Each year, the Sun arrives at 0°00′ Pisces about 6 hours later because of the extra 6 hours. Each leap day on February 29 shifts the timing earlier for you, as happens every 4 years. Through that cycle, the changeover shifts between February 18 and February 19.
The Sun arrives at 0°00′ Pisces on February 18, 2026, at 10:52 AM EST. If your birth time was 9:30 AM in New York that morning, the Sun sat at 29°56′ Aquarius. The Sun moved into Pisces by 2:00 PM that afternoon. Your birth date, time and city let us work out the exact degree for your birth year.

Traits shared by Aquarius and Pisces, and their differences
The 12 zodiac signs fall into 4 elements under astrology, and each element is a basic nature type: water, air, earth and fire. An Aquarius is an air sign. Air links to ideas, conversation and problem solving in astrology. If Pisces is your sign, you belong to the water element, tied to reflection, empathy and emotion. Pisces tunes in to feelings right away, while Aquarius sorts things out through logic.
Despite those differences, the 2 February signs have plenty of traits in common. At the end of the zodiac cycle is where both signs sit. That spot, astrologers say, gives you a wide and generous view of people. Often you'll read that both signs care a lot about helping others, and they dislike strict rules. Usually Aquarius helps by organizing groups, while Pisces offers comfort to 1 person at a time.
Questions that people ask
If you were born on the cusp, can you be both Aquarius and Pisces?
A cusp is the boundary line separating 2 zodiac signs. No matter if your birthday is February 18 or 19, the Sun occupies only 1 sign at once. So you aren't both signs at once. The planet Mercury, though, always travels near the Sun. You could be an Aquarius with Mercury in Pisces, and that mixes both styles for you.
Aquarius has the water bearer as its symbol, so why is it called an air sign?
The Aquarius constellation rose during the Middle East's rainy season, according to ancient astronomy. Those watching the sky pictured a figure that poured water from a jar. Reading astrology, you'll notice the water in that jar stands for shared knowledge and thoughts, not feelings. Because astrologers link thoughts and communication to air, Aquarius counts as an air sign for them.
What are my choices if I was born February 18 or 19 and my birth time is unknown?
First, we check if the Sun moved to a new sign on your birthday in the year you were born. Sometimes the switch falls on February 18, with your birthday landing on February 19. Then you're a Pisces whatever time you were born. If the changeover fell on your birthday itself, you can ask your state vital records office for your birth record.
